Moldova Banned Advertising of Medicines
OREANDA-NEWS. March 21, 2012. This legislative initiative has been put forward by democrats Dumitru Diacov and Oleg Tulea, who suggested introducing amendments in Article 19 of the Bill of Advertising and Article 19 of the Code of TV and Broadcasting. According to the initiative, it will be also banned to advertise the kinds of medical treatment which have to be prescribed by a doctor only.
The outdoor advertising will be allowed only in places of the medicines production and sale and in medical journals. The initiative also stipulates that adds spreading by TV and broadcasting will have to include recommendation to consult a doctor or a pharmaceutist in case if drug side effect arises and a number of the license to operate issued by the authorized state body. It will be also forbidden for actors to play doctors in advertising filmlets.
The members of Parliament think the amendments to protect interests of consumers as them purchasing medicines widely advertised in mass media. As they say, people often avoid consulting doctors to prevent or treat their illnesses and prefer to buy medicines basing on the information provided in TV ads. The deputies stress this method of the self –treatment is dangerous for health and can provoke complications in the short- and long-term prospects.
They consider the amendments to protect the right of patients to be provided with the information on quality of medicines they buy in health institutions. The legislative initiative has been registered in the parliament and has to be considered by parliamentary commissions.
