Daewoo to Invest in Economy of Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. March 20, 2012. This was stated by Daewoo International leaders at their meeting with Valeriu Lazar, vice-premier, minister of economy, in Bucharest. They are ready to establish Daewoo subsidiaries in Moldova operating in various domains. Chang Hoon Lee, president of Daewoo International in Bucharest expressed interest in working out projects on construction and modernization of electric power plants powered by traditional kinds of fuel and renewable energy sources.
Among other areas the corporation is interested in are modernization of high voltage lines, chemical and metallurgic industries, procurements and export of agricultural products to Asian markets, and investment in agriculture of Moldova. Valeriu Lazar welcomed intention of the Korean Corporation to invest in Moldova and stated it offers a unique opportunity to deliver goods to EU and CIS markets with 800 mln. of consumers in duty-free regime.
The head of the ministry of economy presented a huge potential of the energy sector of Moldova where the research is being carried out now to appraise needs of the sector in investments and international tenders will be announced this year to modernize thermal power plants of Moldova. He invited Daewoo to take part in tenders to purchase state property objects. Valeriu Lazar noted willingness of Moldova to render logistic and informational support to the Korean Corporation to identify investment opportunities.
With the election of the president, the government will speed up economic reforms and start a large-scale process of selling public property and implementing public and private partnership projects, Valeriu Lazar added.
