OREANDA-NEWS.March 19, 2012. Moldova will benefit from 200 million dollars in financial assistance from the United Nations Organization (UN) until 2017. UN Resident Coordinator in Chisinau Kaarina Immonen made statements to this effect at a news conference given jointly with Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca.

The event was organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Moldova's accession to the United Nations. The head of the Moldovan diplomacy said that, in 2012, Moldova marked several anniversaries, among which the 20th anniversary of accession to a string of international bodies.

"We wanted to turn this anniversary into something special. By joining the UN in 1992, Moldova completed the process of recognition of its statehood and secured status of full-fledged member of the international community. Over the past 20 years, we have managed to become a trustworthy partner. In these first 20 years of relations with the UN, Moldova has been a beneficiary. Yet, I would like that the optic of these relations change in the years to come, and I hope that Moldova will contribute more to the settlement of problems faced by the international community," Leanca said. He added that cooperation with the UN benefits Moldova's integration into the European Union.

UN Resident Coordinator in Chisinau Kaarina Immonen reiterated that the UN backs Moldova's European integration process, and will increase the financial assistance in the next years.
