OREANDA-NEWS. March 16, 2012. Under the invitation from Chancellor Gene Block of the University of California, Los Angeles, Capt. Wei Jiafu, Chairman of COSCO Group, delivered a speech, titled "China and US west: Golden Business Opportunity", reported the press-centre of COSCO Group.

Talking about the experience of COSCO in the US and the potential opportunities for US West Coast to cooperate with China, Capt. Wei painted a picture of how China-US economic cooperative relationship can be further strengthened. His speech got enthusiastic responses from the audience. There are about 400 attendees. Ambassador Qiu Shaofang, Consul General of China Consulate General Los Angeles attended the event.

After the speech, Chancellor Block hosted a banquet in his residence in honor of Capt. Wei. At the banquet, Ambassador Qiu said, Capt. Wei is the first important Chinese business leader visiting the West Coast of the United States after Vice President Xi Jinping's visit in February, and Capt. Wei took an actual step to implement the strategy set by Vice President Xi during his visit to reinforce Sino-US business relations. Ambassador Qiu commended that COSCO is a model of Chinese companies in the US.

UCLA is one of the top public universities in the US, with particular teaching and research strength in the arts, stem cells and other biosciences, international studies and the environment. There are already 12 faculties and graduates of the university awarded Nobel Prize.
