RZD to Provide Freight Transport for Sochi Infrastructure Projects
OREANDA-NEWS. March 16, 2012. In accordance with an instruction from Russia’s Ministry of Transport to assess the possibility of increasing the number of freight train pairs for the delivery of goods to the Sochi transport hub, Russian Railways has analysed the through capacities in the Tuapse - Adler direction on North Caucasus Railways and developed an optimal timetable for passenger trains during 2012-2013, reported the press-centre of RZD.
The timetable will enable Russian Railways to provide the number of "windows" necessary to complete the construction and commissioning of the Olympic facilities for whose execution the Company is responsible and to ensure that freight train routes are developed, allowing it to implement fully the obligations it had previously undertaken.
In summer 2012, the requisite number of passenger trains required in the direction of Russia’s Black Sea coast at this time of year will be assigned, taking into account the increasing passenger numbers during the traditional holiday season. No reduction in the number of passenger trains is planned.
Last year, the average daily arrival of 15.5 freight trains allowed Russian Railways to provide for the transportation of Olympic freight from the Russian Federation in the amount of 16.5 million tons, which was 107.7% of the planned target.
This year, an average of 16-17 trains will arrive per day. In January 2012, Russian Railways ensured the delivery of freight for the construction of infrastructure in Sochi amounting to 1.402 million tons, or 100.1% of the plan.
In order to increase the throughput capacity of the Tuapse - Adler railway line, in 2011 double-track inserts were built on the stretches Sochi - Matsesta, Yakornaya Shchel - Loo, Dagomys - Sochi, Lazarevskoe-Chemitokvadzhe and Tuapse-Shepsi. Last year, 13.6 kilometres of second track were built.
In 2012 the Company will complete the construction of the double-track inserts on the Tuapse - Adler railway line, which has a total operating length of 30 km.
