OREANDA-NEWS. March 09, 2012. In the current marketing year, the area of land under winter crops has been increased by 310.4 thousand hectares and amounts 8,398.8 thousand hectares. Thus, wheat was sown on the area of 6,709,100 hectares, rye - 317,900 hectares, barley - 1,371,400 ha. Overall, in 2011 plantings of winter grain crops have been increased by 3.8% compared with 2010.

"In the steppe zone, the area of planted winter wheat amounted to 5,013,900 hectares, the forest-steppe - 2,445,600 hectares, in woodlands - 938 900 ha," informed Director of the Department of farming of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksandr Demidov.

At this time, there has already begun providing agricultural enterprises with mineral fertilizers for conducting spring-summer field work.

"The Mykolayiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Donetsk, Kherson regions have been provided with fertilizers better. Total domestic agricultural enterprises have been provided for 66% with all mineral fertilizers," added Oleksandr Demidov.
