OREANDA-NEWS. March 06, 2012. The agreement between the Government of Karelia and WES (Wind Energy Systems) company about cooperation in the field of wind-power engineering was signed by Yuri Kancher, First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia, and Georgy Yermolenko, Director General of WES Ltd.
The Agreement provides construction of wind power stations in territory of Karelia, that will contribute to development of power system and improvement of ecological conditions in the republic.
WES Ltd. will tackle financing of construction of wind power stations, the Government of the republic will render the company all the necessary administrative assiatnce. The State Committee of the Republic of Karelia for Housing and Communal Services and Energy is authorised to consummate the agreement.
According to the agreement, wind power stations will appear in Kem and Byelomorsk regions, their construction and commissioning is scheduled for the period from 2014 to 2016. In total it is planned to build 8 wind power stations – four in each area. The total amount of investments will make about 14 billion roubles. The estimated capacity of each station makes 24 megawatt.
When the agreement was signed, Georgy Yermolenko has told that WES has been working in the market of wind power generation for 5 years and currently is completing pilot projects in Krasnodar Territory. Karelia will become the first region in the Northwest of Russia where WES will also construct wind power stations. It is no coincidence that Kem and Byelomorsk regions were chosen by experts, as they possess high wind power potential, developed electric systems, as well as prospects of growth of energy consumption. Other territories where wind power stations may appear next are Pudozh region and the island of Valaam.
