OREANDA-NEWS. March 06, 2012. According to the latest figures, 97 million tons were shipped using the Russian Railways network in February 2012, 4.4% more than in February 2011, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Freight turnover in February 2012 increased compared to February 2011 by 6.1% to 169.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs in February 2012 increased by 5.9% to 214.3 billion ton-kilometres.

According to the latest figures, shipping volumes in January-February 2012 totalled 198.5 million tons, up 4.6% compared to the same period in 2011.

The Russian Railways’ network shipped the following goods in January-February 2012. Percentages in brackets show the change compared to January-February 2011.

Coal - 51 million tons (2.7%)

Coke - 2 million tons (0.1%)

Crude oil and petroleum products - 43.3 million tons (5%)

Iron and manganese ores - 17.1 million tons (2%)

Ferrous metals - 12.5 million tons (1.7%)

Ferrous metal scrap - 1.7 million tons (-16.1% )

Chemical and mineral fertilisers - 7.6 million tons (-5.3%)

Cement - 3.7 million tons (11.7%)

Timber - 5.9 million tons (-12.1 %)

Grain and milled products - 3.8 million tons (41.1%)

Construction materials - 23.6 million tons (26.7%)

Non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock - 3.6 million tons (- 9.2%)

Chemicals and soda - 4.7 million tons (-1.6%)

Industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 4.8 million tons (-3.1%)

Containerised freight - 3.2 million tons (14.9%).

Freight turnover in the first two months of 2012 amounted to 361.9 billion tariff ton-kilometres, up 9.1% compared to the same period in 2011. Freight turnover in January-February 2012 including empty wagon runs was 460.3 billion ton-km, an increase of 9.3% on Jan-Feb 2011.
