OREANDA-NEWS. March 05, 2012. China newly-established bar and rod capacity was 20 million tons last year, lower than the growth of 35 million tons in 2010. Of the total increases last year, 10 million tons were for high-speed wire rod, seven million tons for bar and rod and three million tons for rebar with unknown specifications.

Much of the new capacity was concentrated in North China and East China, accounting for 35.8 percent and 31.9 percent respectively.

The western region attracted one-third of the national investment in additional capacity. Last year China production of rod, deformed bar and wire rod totaled 346 million tons, an increase of 15.06 percent over the previous year.
