Lviv Railways to Save Money Using Ural Locomotives
OREANDA-NEWS. March 05, 2012. The Lviv Railways has started trial operation of new electric locomotives with motors of direct current - 2ЕС6 and 2ЕС10 produced by the JSC Ural locomotive factory in Russia.
Operational testing of freight electric locomotive 2ЕС10 has taken place with the participation of the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Infrastructure Borys Kolesnikov, in Lviv.
Testing of electric locomotives there is on a section Lviv - Lavochne - Chop, operational length of which 265.8 km. Most of it is - mountainous terrain, and the highest point - Beskid station - 790 meters above sea level. Complex topography of this area will allow studying all the advantages and disadvantages of new techniques.
According to Borys Kolesnikov, within a month railroad workers will be testing new electric locomotives, including next week there are protesting of their at the sections in the Carpathians.
The manufacturing company says that freight electric locomotive 2ЕС10 "Granite", created on the base platform of an electric locomotive 2ЕС6, combined in itself the best design and engineering solutions of Siemens AG.
According to technical specifications, electric locomotives 2ЕС6 and 2ЕС10 have increased compared to locomotives of series ВЛ11М, operated now on the railroad, force of draught of a long mode, respectively by 33% and 71%. This makes possible to increase the weight standards of freight trains and to improve the traffic capacity of railways sections.
The first results have already shown a significant advantage of new electric locomotives operation. First of all it concerns the improvement of working conditions of locomotive crews, increase in between-repairs run and reduce in electric power consumption.
