OREANDA-NEWS. March 01, 2012. In 2011, Russian Railways sold 11,000,038 tickets for long-distance trains on the Internet, some 3,765,000 tickets more than in 2010, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Electronic sales currently account for about 10% of total ticket sales on long-distance trains. On average, passengers bought about 30,000 tickets a day on the Internet in 2011.

Passengers can now buy tickets not only for domestic trains, but also for international routes.

Tickets booked online via the web-portal of Russian Railways can be obtained at any Russian Railways’ ticket office at a convenient time or just before the train departure. Passengers can also obtain and print train tickets they have paid for online at self-service terminals (SSTs).

In 2011, 70 SSTs were installed at 34 stations in Russia’s major cities. One million tickets were printed at the SSTs on 31 December, 2011.
