Zhytomyr Got EUR 5mn for Energy Efficiency
OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2012. The grant became supplement to the credit in the amount of up to 10 million Euros, which has been given city of Zhitomir by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Funding will be provided toward priority investment programs whose main goal - reducing energy consumption, lower consumption of natural gas and electricity, as well as modernization of heat supply systems and water supply.
Additional technical support of the project will be provided by the Government of Sweden.
The credit for period of 10 years has been granted the municipal enterprise for a heat supply "Zhytomyrteplokomunenerho", which provides with heat and hot water about 75 thousand apartments in the city. Loan funds will be used for introduction of the cogeneration installation, individual heat substations with heat meters, for reconstruction and modernization of the boilers, as well as to replace worn-out pipe of system.
By grant funds there will be financed transfer of facilities of a heat supply into use of a waste of local wood processing industry, as well as installation of additional individual heating substations.

The fact that the project receives funding from the Eastern Partnership in the field of energy efficiency and ecology makes it even more important for the city and for all country as a whole," said the Director for the Ukraine office of the EBRD, Andre Kuusvek.
"Provided financial support it is possibility for civilized development of communal economy in our city. I am sure that Zhytomyr residents in the nearest future will feel improve.
