OREANDA-NEWS. February 27, 2012. The Ministry of Agriculture of Belarus has assured the Embassy of Ukraine in Minsk that the Belarusian government has no claims to make about the quality of Ukrainian foodstuffs, the embassy said in a press-release, which was posted on its official web site Thursday.

The message points out that all sorts of Ukrainian cheese available on the Belarusian market have been certified by Belarus’ veterinary authorities.

In the meantime, Belarus’ First Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Nadezhda Kotkovets said Wednesday that Belarus could follow Russia’s lead in imposing a ban on the import of Ukrainian cheese.

“We haven’t ruled out supporting Russia’s decision by imposing our own ban on cheese imports from Ukraine,” Kotkovets said, adding that Belarusian veterinary watchdogs are to discuss the issue.

Kotkovets also said that Belarus produced a sufficient amount of cheese to meet domestic demands.
