OREANDA-NEWS. February 27, 2012. MPX applied before  SEMACE for an upgrade of the license issued to the Taua solar power plant to 50 MW. In 2011 MPX started the first phase of 1  MW and announced an  increase to  2 MW in a partnership with GE. Despite the beginning of licensing procedures the increase to  50 MW depends on the implementation of a contracting mechanism that will make investment in the project feasible. The federal administration is already considering a solar power auction and the state of Ceara is now engaged in FIES (Solar Power Incentive Fund) structuring.

In  six months of commercial operation 808,369 MWh have already been generated by the plant. MPX solar plant, the only one of its kind actually connected to the National Interconnected System, has 1 MW installed capacity, which is enough to supply power to about 1,500 families.
