PM of Ukraine Insists that Gas Contract Should Be Soon Revised
OREANDA-NEWS. February 21, 2012. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov met with the State Duma Speaker of RF Sergei Naryshkin. During the meeting the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and the implementation of joint projects.
In particular, Mykola Azarov stressed that the unification of technical regulations and standards will increase the level of bilateral trade and will remove the problematic issues that sometimes arise in trade relations. "Unification of technical regulations will greatly simplify our interaction and eliminate those issues that sometimes arise in the course of our cooperation", - he said.
In turn, the State Duma Speaker suggested focusing on the unification of technical regulations in areas where the greatest intensity of trade.
"We believe that in trade between two countries we should make every effort to primarily coordinate and synchronize standards and technical regulations for particularly sensitive positions, commodity groups, followed by intensive trade", - Sergei Naryshkin said. He also added that the ratification of agreements on free trade in the CIS significantly simplified the trade regime, in particular, between our countries.
The Prime Minister also stressed that mutually beneficial decision on the revision of gas contracts should be found soon. "We are making significant efforts to find mutually acceptable and mutually beneficial solution especially for such a task. Solutions must be found soon", - Mykola Azarov said. He added that Ukrainian industry pays for gas USD 560 dollars per thousand cubic meters. "This is a record price. There is such prices in Europe"- PM said.
