OREANDA-NEWS.  February 17, 2012.  DTEK's CEO Maxim Timchenko has instructed the company to render every assistance to the special commission established to investigate today’s accident at Kosmonavtov Mine of DTEK Rovenkianthracite that left one person dead and nine injured. The company will also conduct an internal investigation and communicate its findings.
 
Maxim Timchenko expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased miner and wished the injured speedy recovery. He also gave orders to facilitate treatment of the miners and speed up provision of the necessary material aid.
 
“We apply our best efforts to make coal production in Ukraine safer than anywhere in the world – we are implementing international standards, investing in production automation, personal protection equipment and early warning systems. Total investments in health and safety during the last five years reached UAH 830 million, resulting in three-fold reduction of the Company’s accident rate. We are planning to invest more than UAH 500 million in 2012, including UAH 45 million in DTEK Rovenkianthracite. We mourn the loss together with the family of the deceased and will do everything we can to help them through this difficult time,” said Maxim Timchenko, DTEK's CEO.
 
In December 2011 following the tender results the integral property complex of Rovenkianthracite State Enterprise was granted on concession to DTEK Rovenkianthracite.
 
Mines of Rovenkianthracite State Enterprise had 6 fatalities in 2011 and 4 in 2010.
 
Ukraine’s mining industry counted 168 fatalities in 2011, compared to 120 in 2010.
