NEC and Indra Bring Cloud Computing to Companies
OREANDA-NEWS. February 16, 2012. NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) and Indra, the number one IT multinational in Spain and a leader in Europe and Latin America, announced today the launch of a new cloud management solution. The solution will provide broad variety of innovative services and mobility to companies in markets throughout the wold.
Operational improvements, cost reduction and a focus on core business are the major benefits for customers of this new cloud management system.
This cloud management system uses "desktop as a service" (DaaS) to provide a complete map of functionalities that cover the various typologies of virtual offices and their associated services. The virtual workplace will be accessible from any device under a monthly payment plan. NEC will provide the technological solution and infrastructure for both hardware and software for these services, while Indra takes care of the professional consultancy, operational services and the hosting of infrastructure.
Both companies have set up a joint working office in the DaaS cloud within the Indra cloud in order to meet the needs and maximise the investment of each client's workplace virtualisation.
NEC and Indra's DaaS Centre enables offices to transition from being separated by numerous fixed locations, to being centralised within a common, virtualised and secure infrastructure. This drastically reduces operating and maintenance costs, achieving technological renewal with minimum investment.
The DaaS Cloud Service Centre provides customers with a full range of centralisation benefits: control and unified management of offices and their applications; absolute data security and protection, increased speed in providing services to end users, and enhanced availability of offices.
The solution is suited to a variety of user profiles by allowing the configuration of elements from each workplace and professional service to be included. It can also be adjusted to the current infrastructure of each client, which greatly simplifies the steps towards cloud computing.
NEC will manage the solution from its Cloud Competence Centre in Madrid. The Competence Centre (CoC) provides services for NEC's EMEA region and offers platforms to develop new innovative services based on the cloud computing model.
Jaime Serrano, president of NEC Ib?rica, said: "The Cloud DaaS Centre raises mobility to its maximum extent, since it allows access to workplaces from multiple devices (PCs, thin clients, tablets, smartphones, etc.), from any location and at any time. An optimal user experience is conveniently obtained, with better quality and efficiency for each working office."
Santiago Roura, director general of Operations of Indra, said: "Within Indra's strategy to help its clients to take advantage of the cloud model, the workplace is one of the fundamental pillars. We are witnessing a rapid evolution in the way in which people access contents and applications, including those of their company, so that the corporate workplace must also develop in the same way. At Indra, we are adapting our management services model of the workplace in order to respond to this challenge, and we are relying on NEC as the best partner on this path."
Indra announced the development of its own cloud computing model in the middle of 2011 in order to provide its clients with services on demand. This DaaS initiative is therefore set within its strategy of advanced models of delivery in the cloud, named Flex-IT. Flex-IT is based on the premise that IT management requires a combination of traditional and virtual models supported in private and/or public "clouds." This delivery model, which is more evolved than traditional delivery, represents an important change in the way of offering outsourcing services, since it enables access in record time, from any location and paying only for what is used.
