OREANDA-NEWS. February 15, 2012. A year after starting the Novomoskovsk Clean Water Program, effluent from Novomoskovskiy Azot have decreased by 19% as compared to the previous year, which translates into a more than an eight tonne reduction in discharge. These encouraging results were achieved by rerouting effluent to the mill’s water treatment facility, something made possible by the installation of a highly efficient 1,000 m3/hour submerged pump.
Environmental protection and the safeguard of water resources are a high priority for EuroChem and its Tula operations. The Novomoskovsk Clean Water Program aims to cut the facility’s water intake by deploying a closed-loop water cycle system, all the while increasing the amount of fresh water available to local residents. In 2012, further discharge reduction targets will be coordinated.
In 2011, Novomoskovskiy Azot invested a total of RUB 283m in environmental protection measures, a significant portion of which was spent on the upgrade of water circulation, drainage, and intake systems. Over the last years, EuroChem allocated a total of approximately RUB 1bn in environmental protection measures across the Tula Region.
