According to the latest figures, in December 2011 82.1 million passengers travelled on the infrastructure operated by Russian Railways, a 5.6% increase over the same month in 2010. Suburban passenger numbers rose by 6.5% to 73.4 million, while the number of long-distance passengers fell by 1.4% to 8.8 million, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Passenger turnover in December 2011 amounted to 10 billion passenger-kilometres, up 0.5% on the same month last year.

In 2011, according to the latest figures, passenger numbers increased 4.8% to 992.4 million compared to 2010. Long-distance passengers fell slightly by 0.1% to 114.8 million, while suburban passenger numbers rose by 5.5% to 877.6 million

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network in 2011 increased by 0.6% compared to the previous year and amounted to 139.7 billion passenger-kilometres.
