OREANDA-NEWS. February 6, 2012. Transaero Airlines announces its operational results for 2011 which indicate the company's stable development with rates considerably exceeding the industry average. It was a record year for Transaero. The company strengthened its position of the country's second-largest air carrier.

2011 Highlights:

Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) increased to a total of 33,180 million, a 26.2% growth over 2010

Number of passengers carried reached 8,453,371, 27.2% more than in 2010

Freight turnover grew to a total of 3,280 million tkm, a 26.1% increase over 2010

Transaero delivered a total of 51,349 tons of mail and cargo in 2011, up 27.9% from 2010

Transaero went on with the development of its domestic and international operations via the company's main hubs in Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as increased the number of direct international flights from different Russian regional cities. Thus, in 2011 Transaero's operational indicators grew by 30% on domestic routes and by 26.8% on international in comparison with 2010.

The number of First (Imperial) class passengers increased by 93% while the number of Business class passengers grew by 40%.

Transaero Airlines continued implementation of its ongoing fleet development and renewal program by acquiring additional aircraft (including two brand-new Boeing 737-800s) and phasing out all Boeing 747-200 jetliners. Within the past year 17 aircrafts were added to the carrier's fleet: two Boeing 777-300s, one Boeing 777-200, seven Boeing 747-400s and seven Boeing 737s. The company became the first operator of Boeing 777-300 aircraft in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe.

In 2011 Transaero Airlines signed agreements with Airbus and Boeing for four Airbus A380s, four Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft, four Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and eight Airbus A320neos.

Transaero Airlines performed flights on more than 150 routes in 2011. The carrier launched 45 new routes with 22 of them from Moscow and St.-Petersburg and 23 from eight Russian regional cities (Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Samara and Ufa).

Transaero being key participant in the Russian Federal program for subsidized transportation to and from the Russian Far East offered subsidies on 13 routes. Transaero carried about 232 thousand passengers in frames of the program during the period from 2009 till 2011, more than any other program participant. The company operated mostly Boeing 777 (including Boeing 777-300) and Boeing-747 on the Far East routes in 2011.

Transaero Airlines has been actively integrating state-of-the-art technologies into its service program. The company introduced mobile check-in with receiving boarding pass by sms option. Transaero was the first among Russian carriers to launch a new web address, transaero.mobi, for users accessing the company's website with mobile devices in .mobi domain zone. Passengers have been provided for a new version of online check-in on the company's website. Mobile applications for iOS and Android operational systems have been updated.

In 2011 Transaero Airlines has launched its official communities in such social networks as Facebook and Twitter. This fact demonstrates the company's intention to be as client-oriented and transparent as possible. Due to careful attention to every comment and feedback from users together with quite interesting and useful content posted by the carrier, Transaero's official group on Facebook just in 9 months became the largest in terms of number of subscribers among all carriers having their Russian-language fan-pages on this social network. Transaero Airlines was named winner of Air Transport World Magazine's Airline Market Leadership Award.

In accordance with the German Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Center (JACDEC), Transaero is ranked five in the top European and fifteen in the top World safest carriers. The company has never had an air safety accident since its maiden flight in 1991. Transaero Airlines has provided more than 1,800 new jobs for highly-skilled industry professionals in Moscow, St. Petersburg and across Russia. More than 160 Transaero's employees have been awarded with governmental and industry awards.
