Fujitsu Group Initiatives Honored with 2nd Kanagawa Global Award
OREANDA-NEWS. February 06, 2012. Fujitsu today announced that two of its initiatives to reduce environmental burden—PC server development and datacenter construction—were honored with Kanagawa Prefecture's 2nd Kanagawa Global Warming Prevention Awards. Fujitsu Limited received an award for its development of the PRIMERGY RX200 S6 Energy-Saving Model technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Next, Fujitsu FIP Corporation received an award for its accomplishments in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the construction of its Yokohama Data Center.
About the Kanagawa Global Warming Prevention Award
The Kanagawa Global Warming Prevention Award, presented by Kanagawa Prefecture with the aim of promoting the prevention of global warming, is an award that publicly recognizes companies that have implemented outstanding initiatives contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Rationale for Selection
1. PRIMERGY RX200 S6 Energy-Saving Model (Fujitsu Limited)
PRIMERGY RX200 S6 Energy-Saving Model
The PRIMERGY RX200 S6 Energy-Saving Model, using Fujitsu's proprietary technology, is able to optimize cooling by reducing the number of fan rotations to the minimum necessary given the temperature of the room. This, in turn, substantially reduces power consumption. At the same time, energy-efficient CPUs and memory are standard equipment on the server. As a result, it is able to reduce power consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 33%(1) compared to existing product, delivering industry-class energy-saving performance. In addition, limiting the heat produced by the server helps reduce the burden of cooling server rooms, thereby contributing to power conservation and CO2 reductions in the cooling of server rooms and datacenters.
The award, which was in the category of technology developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, recognizes Fujitsu's contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the development of its PRIMERGY RX200 S6 Energy-Saving Model.
2. Yokohama Data Center (Fujitsu FIP Corporation)
Yokohama Data Center
The Yokohama Data Center features a free cooling system that takes advantage of the external air temperature to reduce the amount of energy consumed by cooling equipment. Together with effectively utilizing natural energy, the heat generated by servers is used to heat the facility. This is an environment-friendly datacenter that not only constantly takes readings and monitors equipment to enhance efficiency, but also deploys an energy management system that automatically controls equipment according to energy load rates. It is also involved in making its premises greener by partnering with Kanagawa Prefecture for reforestation with the Fujitsu FIP Forest(2) located in the Tanzawa-Oyama. In addition, it collects and reuses rain water.
The award received by the Yokohama Data Center was in recognition for having received a ranking of "S," the highest ranking bestowed by CASBEE(3) Yokohama, the City of Yokohama's evaluation system for assessing a building's green attributes.
