Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Sums Up 2011 Results
OREANDA-NEWS. February 02, 2012. Central Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan held a session, which was dedicated to the results of 2011 and priority tasks of 2012.
It was said that the Chamber conducted wide-scale and targeted work on execution of priority tasks and achievement of necessary goals in development of small and private businesses in Uzbekistan.
In particular, representatives of the Chamber participated in 716 inspections of businesses, which was conducted by controlling bodies to ensure protection of interests and rights of business entities, of which 618 inspections were planned (86.3%) and 98 (13.6%) – unplanned. In 2011, over 11,718 writs for 471.1 billion soums were submitted to courts.
The chamber said that it organized “Days of Entrepreneurs” and other events in participation of partner organizations.
The chamber and its subdivisions in cooperation with the state bodies held seminars to explain existing and new legislative acts. Overall, the chamber organized 247 seminars, which were attended by 22,000 businesses, 76 conferences, which were participated by 10,000 attendees, as well as 79 roundtable, which was attended by 3,300 participants.
In order to improve consultation and information services, the chamber in cooperation with Uzbekistan Business Forum project initiated creation of the Center of assisting to businesses in 14 regions of Uzbekistan.
The centers are directed at providing information and consulting services with use of electronic information kiosks through main corporate service of the Chamber. One-stop-shop centers are successfully operating in Syrdarya and Andijan regions. The centers allow businesses to receive necessary information in short term with minimal expenses. It is planned to open such centers in other regions of Uzbekistan as well.
To help businesses to find partners and set direct cooperation, as well as attract foreign direct investments, the chamber organized the visit of 102 foreign delegations to Uzbekistan. In the result of the visits, some 44 enterprises with foreign investments were created at the assistance of the chamber, of which 17 were joint ventures and 27 enterprises with foreign investments. It also helped 204 enterprises to purchase mini-technologies and equipment for US.5 million.
The chamber also organized 52 cooperation exchanges (including business talks), which was attended by 2,790 local businesses and 881 foreign business circles. In the result of talks, some 91 local businesses exported goods for US8.1 million.
As of 1 January 2012, the chamber has 21,570 members. Several new organizations joined the chamber in 2011, including the Bank Buyuk Ipak Yoli, Khalq Bank, Trans Insurance Plus, Asian Diamond Classic, and others.
In 2011, 8,200 businesses underwent training at the system of the chamber and 4,600 entrepreneurs improved their skills. About 61 businesspeople participated at the Uzbek-German programme on training managers (InWent).
The Council also discussed the main tasks for 2012. It was said that among main tasks of the chamber for 2012 are creating favourable conditions for development of family businesses, implementing measures for providing more freedom for businesses, growth of GDP, increasing production of goods and their exports, etc. The chamber also plans to speed up development of transport and engineering-communication system.
