Zvezda-DSME Shipyard Anticipates Newbuilds Orders in 2013
OREANDA-NEWS. January 30, 2012. The first phase of construction of Bolshoi Kamen-based Zvezda-DSME (Primorsky Territory), a JV of S.Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engeneering (DSME) and Russian United Shipbuilding Corp. (USC) is scheduled for completion in late 2012. So, the company will be able to book its first newbuilding orders, including Aframax vessels in 2013, USC CEO told a meeting of the Union of Russian Shipowners.
"Actually, we're going to build ice-class vessels, sophisticated supply vessels, offshore platforms. We just do not plan building simple tankers, bulk carriers," said Trotsenko.
OJSC Far Eastern Plant “Zvezda” is a leading shipyard providing services for repairs of submarines of the Russia’s Pacific Fleet and the only company in the Far East specializing in repairs, conversion and modernization of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBN). JSC Far Eastern Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (a sub-holding of United Shipbuilding Corporation) owns 78.73% of common stock in Zvezda Shipyard.
United Shipbuilding Corporation was founded in 2007 as a 100-percent state-owned group of companies consolidating about 70% of domestic shipbuilding industry. UCS currently incorporates three regional shipbuilding centers, nine engineering and design offices and 39 dockyards. The Corp’s largest shipbuilding assets include Kaliningrad-based JSC Yantar Shipyard, JSC Admiralty Shipyards (St. Petersburg), JSC PA Sevmash (Severodvinsk), JSC DVZ Zvezda (Vladivostok). Besides, UCS holds a 50% stake in Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a joint venture with STX Finland Cruise Oy.
