Ukraine Continues Reforms in Consumer Protection
OREANDA-NEWS. January 30, 2012. The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine continues to implement reforms in the field of consumer protection, certification and standardization. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Volodymyr Pavlenko during an expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry.
He noted that The Government has approved the bill "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on product safety", registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 18.01.2010, № 9733, which proposes to increase the responsibility of manufacturers and distributors for putting into circulation counterfeit products, and also enable the authorities of State Supervision (control) of consumer Protection to carry out inspections without warning about this entity.
However the Ministry considers it expedient to complete as soon as possible a system of market surveillance in accordance with the adopted legislation. An important question is also to ensure the development and improvement of the institute of public control over observance of consumer rights.
In addition, Volodymyr Pavlenko said that in 2011 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law developed by the Ministry of Ukraine "On Liability for damage caused by a defect in the product" and "On accreditation of conformity assessment bodies" whose provisions aimed at ensuring the functioning of public market surveillance for timely detection, avoidance and prevention of Ukraine on the market products that do not meet the established requirements.
