MPX Supports Education Leveling Program in Copiapo
OREANDA-NEWS. January 27, 2012. The Chairman of the Cluster of Copiapo Camps Ruth Collao said that the 120 million pesos contribution from MPX was very important to the education equalizing program “Yo estudio en mi barrio” (I study in my district), implemented by the Ministry of Social Development, that will help 500 low income people in the city.
The chief objective of this program is to allow disenfranchised sectors of the community to complete their elementary and middle school studies thus improving their chances of entering the formal labor market. The important and innovative aspect of this plan is to take the schooling programs to the communities where the targeted public lives, facilitating access to classes.
The program will be directed to the dwellers of six communities and seven camps in Copiapo that still have not completed their studies. Classes will be ministered twice a week and participants will receive full kits of learning materials and meals, besides assistance to have their children cared for while attending classes.
Additionally, teachers will minister their classes at the community associations of targeted sectors and will e given a monthly bonus for performance in challenging conditions and an incentive for each module successfully completed by students.
The program will be implemented by organizations accredited by the Ministry of Education throughout the nine month-term of the initiative that will start on March 5, 2012.
