Indian Railway Revenue Earnings up by 8.50% in 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. January 23, 2012. The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st to 10th January 2012 were Rs. 2738.66 crore compared to Rs. 2524.04 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.50 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1781.17 crore during the period from 1st to 10th January 2011 to Rs. 1884.67 crore during 1st January – 10th January 2012, showing an increase of 5.81 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th January 2012 were Rs. 737.35 crore compared to Rs. 656.58 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 12.30 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 84.26 crore during this period compared to Rs. 62.83 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 34.11per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th January 2012 were 232.16 million compared to 220.44 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.32 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during 1st to 10th January, 2012 were 134.05 million and 98.11 million compared to 131.39 million and 89.05 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 2.02 per cent and 10.17 per cent respectively.
