Nordecon Completes Reconstruction of Poltsamaa Water Treatment Plant
OREANDA-NEWS. January 19, 2012. Nordecon has completed renovations to the Poltsamaa water treatment plant ahead of time and to a total cost of 1.85 million euros (excluding VAT). In addition to reconstructing the plant, the project involved the laying of more than 13 km of water and sewer pipeline along the right bank of the Poltsamaa River.
"All things considered, our design and construction work on the water and sewerage systems for the residential district on the right bank of the river went very smoothly, despite the rocky soil and some of what we had to do turning out to be more complex than we thought it would," explained Erkki Suurorg, a member of the management board of Nordecon AS. "We managed to construct the pipeline twice as quickly as we expected to - that was ready by November 2010. And we completed construction work on the water treatment plant at the end of December last year, which was ahead of time as well."
Suurorg says that designing and carrying out construction on the project for the treatment plant was a major challenge because of the fluctuating pollution load and flow rate caused by the industries operating in the area. The needs and nature of AS Poltsamaa Felix and AS Poltsamaa Meierei had to be taken into account in renovating the plant (which was required to remain in operation throughout), as a result of which the full range of preventive and safety measures had to be implemented to forestall any damage to the environment. "But working closely with the client and the supervising engineers we were able to ensure not only that the plant kept working the whole time, but that maximum efficiency was guaranteed in line with all norms," Suurorg explained.
"Nordecon is a big, well-oiled machine, which always gives you a sense of security, and which means that whatever they promise you know they'll deliver on," said Kuldar Kipper, CEO of Poltsamaa Varahalduse OЬ. "The team did a great job on this project. Their work will benefit the residents of Poltsamaa for years to come."
Having also been overhauled technically, the plant now boasts online analysis equipment that measures the pollution indicators of the waste water coming in. This allows it to react promptly to higher levels of pollutants. In addition to reconstruction and expansion, the plant has also seen the addition of modern laboratories and an operations centre with a cutting-edge automated control system.
In the course of constructing the pipelines, more than 6 km of sewerage pipes and almost 7 km of water pipes were installed and three sewage pumping stations erected. The design and construction work was commissioned by Poltsamaa Varahalduse OЬ, with supervision carried out by AS Telora-E.
