OREANDA-NEWS. January 19, 2012. During the last year there was observed stable price situation in the segment of basic food commodities. Thanks to effective initiatives of the Government on development of logistics and foodstuffs storage warehouses it was managed to protect people from sharp fluctuations in food prices. At the same time next year prices will remain stable for bread, sugar, oil and grains. This was stressed by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysyazhnyuk during the press conference.

"To ensure relatively stable prices for food and agricultural products last year it was possible due to the large crop and those measures which the Cabinet together with the Ministry and regional administrations worked out in the first place, the organization of outreach fairs. The volumes of sales of agricultural fairs have increased by 25% compared to the year 2010. Of course, the role played by the first steps toward developing wholesale markets, logistics centers and greenhouse farms. Because the major price fluctuations occur at the "seasonal" products. Motivation and allocation of funds in 2011 in the amount of 60 million UAH to support the construction of greenhouse complexes gave positive results," the Minister noted.

According to him, under the influence of seasonal curtailment of production there is only a market of vegetables (through the transition to consume considerably more expensive vegetables in greenhouses).

"In all other groups, end New Year and Christmas holidays marked decrease in levels of their retail prices. This is facilitated plus temperature, which enables to deliver agricultural products, primarily vegetables, from individual farmers to fairs and wholesale markets. Overall in the first quarter of 2012 it should be expected stable price situation," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk emphasized.
The Minister said that today the Agrarian Fund has on a balance 1.3 million tons of wheat, 100 tons of rye.

"It provides us confidence that in 2012, it will not be the price volatility of food grains, flour, bread and bakery products," the Head of MAP assured.

Stable prices have been predicted as for the oil and sugar.
