Port of Odessa Stevedore’s Box Volumes up 2.5 Times
OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2012. LLC Brooklyn-Kiev Port, the operator of Berth Number 42 located at the Port of Odessa, handled 137,700 TEUs, (90,000 containers) in 2011, which is 2.5 times more than a year earlier, the Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP) said.
Since Oct., 2008, when the terminal was inaugurated, the facility has handled as much as 205,700 TEUs. During the past year the average monthly container throughput of the stevedore was 11,500 TEUs.
The founder and partner of Brooklyn-Kiev Port is the world's leading carrier CMA CGM. In autumn of 2010, another global carrier Maersk Line launched calls to the terminal. This had contributed significantly to the container volumes growth.
Since October 2010 the terminal is the first and only Ukraine’s box terminal transshipping containers in ‘ship-shore-ship’ mode. Overall, 4,271 TEUs were transshipped at the facility last year.
