OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2012. In 2011 a total amount of construction, installation and startup works done by Titan-2 holding’s companies to build the radioactive waste treatment facility at Leningrad nuclear power plant cost RUB460m USD 14.5m).

The construction and installation works were carried out at the facility’s main buildings, such as the special building for reprocessing of solid radioactive waste (SRW), storage facility for bitumen compound, as well as on auxiliary and support facilities.

The key objective of the project is to ensure the effective treatment of low- and medium-activity solid radioactive waste, to reduce its amount, to use the solid radioactive waste storage facility more rationally and to create barriers for long-term storage of radioactive waste and conditions for its subsequent removal and transportation to regional burial sites.
