Ukraine’s Port Yuzhny Traffic Volume Hits Record High
OREANDA-NEWS. January 12, 2012. Freight traffic passing through Yuzhny Merchant Sea Port in 2011 totaled 22,639,100 tons, a 24.2-percent growth year-on-year and a record volume handled ever by the port’s terminals, the company said.
In the reporting period, ore cargo (10,379,400 tons), as well as urea, ammonia, and carbon were main cargoes handled at the port.
The volume of transit cargo increased by 35.4% year-on-year to 10,552,500 tons.
In 2011, Vostochny port handled 880 ships and 183,381 rail cars.
State-run Yuzhny Merchant Sea Port founded in 1978 is located on the northwest coast of the Black Sea, in the ice-free Small Adzhalyksk (Grygoryivsky) estuary, 30 km northeast of Odessa. The Port is connected to the sea by a 3km-long 14-m-deep canal so pilotage service is required for inbound and outbound vessels. In 2010, Port of Yuzhny posted a 2.1% growth year-over-year to 18.22 million tons of different cargoes.
