Ust-Luga Begins Shipping Vehicles for Export
OREANDA-NEWS. January 12, 2012. The first Ural trucks for export were shipped from the Ust-Luga Port on January 8, 2012. The first 120 trucks were sent by the Danube Highway to Bremerhaven (Germany). From there the cargo will be transferred to the Hoegh Trooper cargo vessel for delivery to the customer. Transportation services are provided by Hoegh Autoliners A/S Shipping Company (Norway).
The vehicles were delivered for loading to the automobile/railroad ferry connection. This terminal is used to import Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia and Subaru vehicles to Russia as is the multipurpose Yug-2 Transshipment Centre in Ust-Luga.
"As we begin exporting goods other than raw materials, this sends a positive signal to Russian manufacturers who are looking for new ways to deliver their products to foreign markets," says Alexandr Goloviznin, Deputy General Director of Ust-Luga Company JSC for Port Business Development. "The appearance of a new logistics option proves once again that the port in Ust-Luga is becoming an increasingly important link in the international transport system. After Russia enters the WTO, Ust-Luga’s role will become even more significant".
"Exporting vehicles via Ust-Luga has become a new and very valuable experience for us," says Tomasz Lis, official representative of Hoegh Autoliners in Russia. "All transshipment activities were completed very efficiently. Ust-Luga is a great alternative for those who are looking for new export routes, bypassing the overloaded St. Petersburg transport hub. Choosing reliable logistical routes we have once again demonstrated flexibility and are pioneers in this area. We are looking forward to continued fruitful cooperation with Ust-Luga in the future".
