OREANDA-NEWS.  January 12, 2012. The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has signed the Law № 4203-VI "On Amendments to Article 8 of the Law of Ukraine "On Roads" regarding the classification of public highways" adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Under the new classification of roads, public roads of national importance are divided into international, national, provincial and territorial roads, and local are divided on the regional and district roads.

Earlier territorial roads had the status of local importance.

Introduction of a new classification will not only contribute to improving road conditions and development of roads in each region, but also provide a competitive network of roads of national importance to increase transit and tourist travel, which in turn will promote socio-economic development and improve road safety.
