OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2012. The National Bank of Moldova established the official MDL exchange rate at 14,9939 lei against 1 EUR and 11,6780 leis against 1 US dollar (with the cross-rate of EUR against USD via MDL being 1,2839).

The previous exchange rate of MDL against EUR below 15 was recorded on May,5, 2009 and made up 14,9468 leis against 1 euro and 11,2548 leis against 1 US dollar (with the cross-rate being 1,328. The same year of 2009 saw the historical maximum of the MDL exchange rate against EUR which was 17,9845 leis against 1 EUR and 11,5152 against 1 USD, with cross-rate being 1,486.

The key factor influencing the Moldova’s currency strengthening is the descent in EUR on world’s markets, the exchange rate of which against USD was 1,2801 on Friday morning. At the foreign exchange cash market of Moldova the purchase of EUR at less than15 leis was for the first time registered on December, 29, 2011.

The MDL daily exchange rate is set by NBM against US dollar, whereas MDL rate against other currencies, including EUR, is calculated via USD.
