OREANDA-NEWS. January 03, 2012. It is the first inland bonded harbour area. At present, there are 14 bonded harbour areas in China, except this bonded harbour area in Chongqing, other 13 bonded harbour areas are distributed in coastal areas. Chongqing bonded harbour area can influence more than 20 cities in 6 provinces in vast middle-western China with influence area of about 1,000,000 square kilometres and influence population of 250,000,000, and the total amount of GDP in the influence area reaches to RMB 1,400 billion.

It is the first bonded harbour area which has two functions in one area. Other bonded harbour areas only have the function of being seaport, but Chongqing bonded harbour area have two functions of being water port and being airport respectively. The two functions make up for, to some extent, location disadvantage of Chongqing that Chongqing is more than 2,000 kilometres distant from the sea.

It is the first bonded harbour area which is close to the city proper. Bonded harbour areas in coastal areas are always tens of or even hundreds of kilometres distant from the city proper, and the driving time from the area to the city proper is always one to two hours. Water port functional zone of Chongqing bonded harbour area is 9 kilometres distant from central business district of Jiefangbei and only 4 kilometres distant from business district of Guanyinqiao. After the construction of special highway of airport is completed, driving time from the airport functional zone of Chongqing bonded harbour area to the city proper will be within thirty minutes.
