OREANDA-NEWS. December 30, 2011. An offsite meetingoftheOrganizing Committee of the 5th Russian Contest for Operating Staff of Hydro Power PlantswasheldinIrkutsk. Thecontestwill take place on the basis of OAO Irkutskenergobranch – Irkutskaya HPP – in September 2012.

Regional contests will be based on OAO RusHydro branches: East – at Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, South – Karachaevo-Cherkessky branch, Centre – at Zagorskaya PSPP.

Nineteamsleadinginregionalcontestsare to arrive in Irkutsk to compete for the title of the strongest team of Russia’s hydropower operating staff.

NikolayDorofeev, Head of OAO RusHydro’sDepartment of technological control and surveillance, Organising Committee member, chief judge of the previous contest, such events are an important contribution to the system of improvement of professional culture. Visiting the plants, getting to know the equipment and the people, the operating employees exchange their experience and knowledge, learn from each other. The significance of such communication cannot be overestimated.

Accordingtothedeputy general director for power generation – chief engineer of OAO IrkutskenergoEvgeny Novikov, last year, OAO Irkutskenergohosted the contest of operating personnel of Siberian and Far-Eastern HPPs on the basis of Bratskaya HPP, therefore, it is well aware of the significance of such events. Employees of the HPP, competing with those of other plants of the country, acquire unique experience.

The contest has been held since 2005. Its key aim is to assess and boost theprofessionalqualificationofoperatingpersonnelto ensure reliable operations of plants and equipment, as well as spreading advanced methodology of operations, arrangements for staff coaching and training.

During the contest the judges are to check knowledgeofstandardsandspecifications, skills of routine switching, emergency activities on the electric and hydromechanical equipment, first aid provisions using simulators.
