OREANDA-NEWS. December 28, 2011. CEO G.Khan said “TNK-BP was the first oil company with which we signed a contract regarding oil pumping through the pipeline binding Polar region and Purpe. This project will result a new era in oil and gas development in Yamal region and in the North of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The Company is planning to launch a commercial supply of oil from the new oil fields in 2016, and will consequently increase the volume of supply in the mid-term”. The recourses at these TNK-BP’s oil fields are valued as many as 5 billion barrels, and the Company is intended to invest up to 10 billion USD in their development (including mounting feeding pipelines) in the mid-term.

The Ministry of Energy has declared that except TNK-BP Company, the contract regarding oil pumping through the pipeline binding Polar region and Purpe was also signed by Lukoil. These two Companies would carry the main volume of the oil supply. Besides, according to the speaker’s speech, Gazprom Neft Company is also planning to be involved in these projects by the agency of its joint ventures: Messoyakhaneftegaz (a joint-venture of Gazprom Neft and TNK-BP Companies) and SeverEnergiya (a joint-venture of Gazprom Neft and NOVATEK Companies), also Gazprom Company will be involved there, the company is planning to build an independent oil pumping station and a feeding pipeline to the system of Transneft.

According to the Russian Government’s decree, the financing of mounting the oil pipeline which binds Polar region and Purpe will be carried by means of TRANSNEFT JSC’s assets. As part of the first chief steps of the project, a line from Tarko-Sale village (the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District) till Purpe village will be built. The second part of the project presupposes pipeline mounting from Novozapolyarny village (the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District) till Tarko-Sale village. Finally, at the third step of the project a pipeline section from an oil pump station in Tazovsk Region (the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District) till Novozapolyarny village will be built. The finishing dates of the project steps are 2014, 2015, and 2016 accordingly.

The Polar region – Purpe oil pipeline, with the rated capacity up to 45 million tons, and about 500 km long, will bind the oil fields of Yamal and the North of Krasnoyarsk Krai with the Eastern Syberia – Pacific Ocean oil pipeline (ESPO).
