OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2011. Moscow Domodedovo Aiport has introduced an induction system which allows passengers with reduced hearing ability to hear the loud speaker announcements. Special equipment was installed in 9 airport zones: arrival and departure sectors both domestic and international, luggage claim area and public area of the airport’s terminal. For passengers’ convenience special designations (pictograms) were located in the immediate effective range of the induction system.
"Domodedovo Airport is creating comfortable conditions for all passenger categories, said Igor Borisov, Director of Domodedovo Airport. In this case we mean an innovative system which dramatically improves the quality service of passengers with reduced hearing ability".
According to the data by the Russian Society of Deaf, no less than 8% of the Russian population is deaf (approximately 13 million people). Notably, experts emphasize the recent trend for ever strengthening increase of people with reduced hearing ability worldwide.
"This is the first time in Russia an airport or any other body installed an induction system at places with free public access – commented Stanislav Ivanov, vice-president of the Russian Society of Deaf. We acclaim the airport’s undertaking and hope for further advancement of this practice in airports, railway stations, banks, schools or other facilities with massive public gatherings".
Swedish Univox PLS-300 system of audio loops, installed in Domodedovo airport, is being perceived by individual earphones marked T (audio loop). The system meets the requirements of Russian government standards and international quality standards, safe for environment and humans. It is connected to the automatic voice announcements transmitted at Moscow Domodedovo Airport in Russian, English, Azerbaijanian, Armenian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Hebrew, Spanish, Italian, Kirghiz, German, Portuguese, Thai, Turkish, Uzbek, Ukrainian, French, Hindi, Japanese and other languages spoken in the countries of destination and departure.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport in Russia. Over 10 years, its passenger traffic has increased almost 10-fold, from 2.8 million passengers in 2000 to 22.3 million passengers in 2010. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been chosen for flights to Moscow by members of the world's leading aviation alliances: Star Alliance, oneworld.
Since 2010, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been on the top of the list of the best airports in the Eastern Europe for the quality of its service, according to the annual rating by independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).
