OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2011. In order to enhance the competitiveness of domestic auto industry, CSC invited a number of related companies and academic institutions to form a new Research Alliance for Hot Stamping and held a founding conference in CSC on Dec. 9, 2011. The conference was hosted by CSC’s Technology Vice President Yu-Soong Chen. There were nearly hundreds of people attended the conference, including the vice CEO Chia-Min Wei of Metal Industries R&D Centre (MIRDC), members of the alliance and lots of elites from the related industrial and academic fields.

The Vice President Yu-Soong Chen indicated that to meet the world trend of “Energy saving and environment protection”, less weight and higher safety for the vehicle has become the main objective to pursue for the automakers. The Hot Stamping forming process has been widely used by European and American auto manufacturers in auto parts production such as B-pillar, bumpers and door reinforced beams because of its dimensional stability, less pass of forming process and ultrahigh strength. The use of hot stamping parts in global auto industry will reach a total number of 350 million and the production line will increase from 140 to 400~500 by 2015.

Although the trend of hot stamping will cause some impacts to those domestic auto industry who still using the traditional cold stamping forming process, this is still a great opportunity for them to upgrade their techniques. Vice President Chen emphasized that the purpose to form this Hot Stamping Research Alliance is to unite the strength and integrate the advantages of the team's power for the development of the materials, forming techniques, mold design and production equipment that needed for the hot stamping. With the founding of the alliance, it is anticipated that Taiwan can build up its own hot stamping techniques and capability for the new generation vehicle development market, thus enhancement of the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s auto industry and the goal of triple-win among upstream steel plants, downstream customers and the government can be reached accordingly.
