OREANDA-NEWS. December 22, 2011. The CPC Anhui Provincial Committee and Anhui Provincial Government released Opinions on accelerating urbanization in an attempt to further promote the development of urbanization and enhance the happiness index of the people.

During the period of 12th Five-Year Plan, Anhui will implement the project of "11221" as a focus in an aim to help Hefei build into a regional metropolis with great influence, form city cluster along Yangtze River with Wuhu as a center, develop more than 20 above-county-level cities, foster 200 characteristic townships and implement comprehensive plan for 10 thousand villages.

The Opinions pointed out that Anhui will further optimize the urban system , boost the comprehensive urban carrying capacity and gradually improve urban civilization level. In the future, Anhui will promote the development of Hefei Economic Zone, tap the space resources around Chaohu Lake, accelerate the pace of regional integration and set up city clusters to link Yangtze River Delta and Mid-west China.

According to the Opinions, Anhui will vigorously develop city clusters and make central city bigger and stronger. In the future, Anhui will support Hefei to accelerate the pace of modern metropolis and further enhance the ranking of Hefei among the capital cities across China and strengthen the leading position of Wuhu in the development of Wanjiang in a bid to form a big city on the riverside. By 2015, Anhui will boast 6 metropolis with urban population of 1 million in each city and 8 cities with urban population of 500 thousand in each city.

Meanwhile, the urban infrastructure will be extended to rural areas, public service will cover rural areas and civilization will radiates to rural areas.
