Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 Gets Excellent Results
OREANDA-NEWS. December 20, 2011. Kaspersky Lab announces that its most popular product, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, has once again achieved excellent results in AV-Test.org’s periodic anti-virus testing, and remains unbeaten on treating active infections.
A total of 25 consumer products from the leading industry players took part in the comparative testing, conducted in September and October of this year. AV-Test’s specialists used the methodology that most closely models real world conditions in which products are used: all the different protection components on the products were activated, and in terms of threats emphasis was placed on new, previously unknown malicious programs. Testing was performed using the Windows XP Professional SP3 operating system.
Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 took second place overall out of the 25 products, garnering 15.5 points out of the total of 18. What’s more, on practically all tested AV characteristics the product demonstrated much better results than the average ones. Thus, in testing protection against new zero-day threats which a user most often comes across when connected to the Internet, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012’s result came to 98%, while the average was just 91%. As mentioned above, the testing also once again placed Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 as the industry leader on deleting active components of widespread threats – including the more serious ones like rootkits – with a 97% score being awarded; the average was a mere 87%. The product earned the same high percentage score on deleting hidden elements of malware and restoring damaged system components; the average was 57%. This latter low figure means that competitors’ products are not able to fully cure infected systems to restore them back to working condition.
Other highlights among the detailed test results for Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 include the product’s having hardly any effect on system resource usage, and – as is already a tradition for the product – it’s not returning any false positives. Other solutions on average show up 12 false positives.
Commenting on the test results, Oleg Ishanov, Deputy Director of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky Lab, said: “The independent testing laboratory Av-Test.org conducts one of the most complex and diversified periodic anti-virus tests there is, which accurately quantifies the quality of user protection in real world conditions. By far not every product time after time gets marks as high as we do in such a complex test. Unlike many other products, ours are able to not only effectively prevent infection, but also restore an already infected system better than all the competition. In choosing a Kaspersky Lab product, our users can once again be sure that they are getting stably the best quality on the market.”
