OREANDA-NEWS. December 21, 2011. China will put in place policies to popularize the use of high strength rebar in the construction sector and strive to expand the proportion of such materials to 60 percent of the sectorбпs total consumption by 2015.

The extensive use of high-grade rebar could help reduce consumption of steel products, which will in turn prop up the transformation and upgrading of the steel industry seeking to conserve energy and reduce emissions.

Rebar is one of the steel products with the largest quantities of production and consumption at home. Last year China produced and used 131 million tons of rebar in various applications, accounting for 16.46 percent of the countryбпs total steel output.

While in realizing the 60 percent target, the country could reduce the consumption of steel by some 10 million tons, equivalent of 16 million tons of iron ore and six million tons of standard coal.
