OREANDA-NEWS. December 16, 2011. The Movement for Efficiency and Transparency (MET) was launched by mjunction services (mjunction) as a non-profit and neutral movement to recognise, reward and replicate models of creating efficiency and transparency in society and businesses. The movement was given a kick start by transformation champions who took part in the inaugural MET conference in Kolkata in August 2011.

Taking the MET movement a step further, mjunction held the second MET conference in Jamshedpur on December 9, 2011, in association with Tata Steel. Hosted at the Tata Auditorium at the XLRI campus, MET received the participation of nearly 200 enthusiasts from across industry, civil society, government, corporate, and arts and culture, along with professors and students from esteemed institutions in Jamshedpur. Panelists included Vijay Anand, corruption crusader; Vivek Gilani, founder, mumbaivotes.com; Ajay Chaturvedi, champion of social reforms in rural India; Avalok Langer, conflict reporter, and Mehmood Khan, social transformation champion. The speakers were part of the panel discussing the theme ‘Transparency — the key to an ever flourishing society’.

HM Nerurkar, managing director, Tata Steel, in his inaugural speech, said, “To ensure that the production and distribution systems as well as greater structures around us work transparently and efficiently, we must emphasise on a couple of things. First and foremost among them is to ensure that we collect information by involving all relevant stakeholders, and then share it in an open manner, with an open mind. This will enable us to make fact-based decisions.”

Commenting on the occasion, Viresh Oberoi, founder, MET, and managing director, mjunction, said, “MET was instituted to become a platform to identify, appreciate, exchange and amplify exemplary contributions of individuals and organisations in the fields of transparency and efficiency. We have created this forum for these change agents to share their vision, experiences and stories and thereby encourage others to join the movement. mjunction will also play a role in enabling resources to support people and ideas. The ultimate goal is to catalyse and inspire similar achievements in corporate governance and civil society.”

At every MET conference, some of the country’s and the world’s greatest and most committed visionaries will be invited and they will be encouraged to share their perspective on how efficiency and transparency will pave the way for a new world order.

The third edition of MET is being planned at Bokaro in association with SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant in January 2012.
