OREANDA-NEWS. December 13, 2011. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis expressed gratitude to Ambassador of Greece to Latvia Chryssanthie Panagiotopoulou for her contribution to promoting bilateral relations, incl., in the area of investment. Ch.Panagiotopoulou praised Latvia’s achievements in overcoming the financial crisis and stressed that Latvia should become a positive example for other countries.

Within the framework of the farewell visit, the Ambassador informed the Prime Minister that currently the work is underway at the joint alternative energy project in Nica Region, which is equally co-financed by Latvia and Greece. This is a pilot project to explore business development opportunities in Latvia, said the Ambassador.

V.Dombrovskis acknowledged that both countries have much unused potential in different areas, particularly in the area of investment and tourism as well as in organizing bilateral working visits.

Chryssanthie Panagiotopoulou has been the Ambassador of Greece to Latvia since July 26, 2007.
Indicators of trade between Latvia and Greece:

In the first three quarters of 2011 the trade turnover of Latvia and Greece amounted to EUR 13.40 million, raking Greece the 57th among the foreign trade partners of Latvia. It has increased by 78.26% or EUR 5.88 million compared with respective period of the previous year. The main export goods of Latvia to Greece – timber and timber products (22.21%), mineral products (20.27%), machinery and mechanisms; electric equipment (18.48%). The main import goods from Greece - food products (24.76%), machinery and mechanisms; electric equipment (17.38%), chemicals and allied products (14.40%).

The services turnover with Greece in the first half of 2011 amounted to LVL 6.8 million. It has increased by 47.83% or EUR 2.2 million compared with respective period of the previous year. The main export services: passenger transport by air (42% or), marine cargo shipping (15% or), marine cargo handling and other auxiliary activities (12% or). The main import services: private trips (77% or), business trips (17% or), air cargo handling and other auxiliary activities (3%).
