OREANDA-NEWS. December 08, 2011. Central Asia and the Caucasus Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (CACAARI) held a Regional Brainstorm meeting for Transforming and Strengthening of Agricultural Research and Innovation Systems.

The meeting was held in Tashkent and in Samarkand city. The event was organized at the support of the Global Fund on Agriculture Research for Development.

The CACAARI has been founded in 2000 as initiative of National Agriculture Research systems of eight countries of the region to develop agriculture research through providing neutral platform for exchange of experience and information.

The organization serves as a three-way communication mechanism – from regional to global stakeholders, from global to regional stakeholders and among various stakeholders in the region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and contributes actively to knowledge sharing processes and capacity building exercises.

Taking into account global processes of agriculture researches for development and adhering to principles and regulation of Road Map of the Global Conference on Agriculture Research for Development 2010, the CACAARI develop a project of regional strategy on reforming agriculture research systems and innovations, which was discussed at the meeting in Uzbekistan.
The regional consultative meeting is important for solving financial and investments into agriculture research for development, which will help to increase fruitfulness of agriculture sector in the countries of the region.

In line with the experience with dynamically developing economy (India, China, Brazil), agriculture research for development has high potential and positively impact to growth of agriculture production and economy as a whole. To uncover this potential, agriculture research for development should be integrated with innovative systems in agriculture activities, which are considered as key aspects for development.

During the meeting, the participants also discussed opportunities of strengthening of cooperation between public and private sectors to develop agriculture innovations. Representatives of the state, public and private organizations of the CACAARI member states and partners participated at the meeting.
