OREANDA-NEWS. December 6, 2011. Sumisho Global Logistics Europe GmbH (SGL Europe), a Group Company of Sumitomo Corporation, received the Silver Award from Panasonic Corporation under the ECO-VC (value creation) Initiative at the Excellent Partners Meeting. SGL Europe won this honor out of 901 candidates for this fiscal year along with 10 other recipients.

Panasonic launched the ECO-VC Initiative to reduce CO2 emissions and costs in its operations in cooperation with its partners. SGL Europe proposed to Panasonic AVC Networks Czech, s.r.o. (PAVCCZ) to introduce "milk-runs," a method of picking up the cargo from different suppliers to consolidate the cargoes, round-trip transport of parts/components and finished products, changing from the previous way in which each supplier deliver the parts separately. This scheme has highly contributed to reduce CO2 emissions and cost of PAVCCZ by decreasing the number of trucks and improving cargo load efficiency, which finally brought in the award.

In addition, Sumisho Global Logistics Co., Ltd. (SGL) is developing environment-friendly methods of freight transportation in cooperation with its customers to decrease CO2 emissions from logistics operations. A recent example is a significant result achieved in China, where SGL is among the first to have established a domestic logistics network using the nation's high-speed railway system, whereas major competitors mainly use trucks for transportation. SGL is also helping to reduce CO2 emissions by improving truck loading efficiency. Using MAXICON, a liquid bulk returnable container, SGL offers a new option for transporting liquid cargo in one-ton units, in addition to the conventional methods of tankers and drums.
Sumitomo Corporation and SGL will continue to work to provide safe, reliable and environment-friendly logistics services, using extensive know-how accumulated over years of global operations in the logistics sector.
