The Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator Award
The Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator program is an initiative undertaken by Thomson Reuters—the world's leading source of intelligent information—that analyzes patent data and related metrics in a proprietary methodology to identify the companies and institutions that lead the world in innovation activity. The Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator methodology is based on four principle criteria: patent approval success rate, global reach of patent portfolio, patent influence in literature citations and overall patent volume.
Reason for Fujitsu's Selection
Fujitsu performed consistently well across all of the criteria for the Top 100 Global Innovator program, earning its spot as one of the world's most innovative companies. It is a company dedicated to innovation, as evidenced by the volume of its patent filings and the success of its published applications to grants. It also protects a significant number of its inventions in the four world leading markets: Japan, China, the United States and the European Patent Office. Finally, Fujitsu received over 86,000 patent citations to its inventions over the period covered, indicating that the technologies it invents are recognized by others as being of significance and worth building upon.
Fujitsu Comment by Masahiro Kamei, Head of Intellectual Property Unit
It is indeed an honor to have been selected as a Top 100 Global Innovator, the result of a comprehensive assessment of Fujitsu's intellectual property activities. As Fujitsu's mid- to long-term vision, we strive to realize a Human Centric Intelligent Society where information and communication technology leads to more prosperous and secure lifestyles. The acquisition, holding and use of intellectual property rights will work to support businesses that bring this goal to reality.
