Indian Railway Received Best Overall Performance Award
OREANDA-NEWS. December 2, 2011. Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) of the Ministry of Railways has been selected for award in the category of BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the year 2010-11. RSPB shares this award with Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). The awards ceremony will be held in Chennai on 10th December 2011 where the trophy would be presented. Railways has sixteen Padamshree, three Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, five Dronacharya Sammaan, Six Dhyanchand Sammaan and 134 Arjun Puraskar to its credit which have been awarded to its sports persons. Indian Railways is proud to have 140 Arjuna Awardees and 7 Dhyyanchand Awardees in its family.
Railway sports persons won 25 Medals for India which include 13 Gold medals, 3 Silver Medals and 9 Bronze medals in Commonwealth Games-2010 held in New Delhi last year.
In Asian Games 2010, held in Guangzhou, China, Indian Railway players have won 15 Medals for India which include 7 Gold medals, 1 Silver Medal and 7 Bronze medals. India won a total of 64 Medals which included 14 Gold Medals. The half of the total Gold Medals won by India, were brought by the Railway players playing as part of the Indian contingent.
The Indian Railways, winner of the first ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar’ instituted by the Government of India, always takes lead in promoting sports in the country. Railways sports persons have been participating in prestigious national as well as international competitions like Asiad, Commonwealth Games, Olympics, other international level sports events and bringing laurels to the nation. With a galaxy of promising and outstanding sports persons on its roll since the inception of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in 1928, Indian Railways have always been striving hard to take up the new challenges and brings laurels to the nation.
