OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2011. The project will be presented by RMJM in 18 months. New materials and technologies will be used in the design of the third segment. This will make the building more energy efficient, significantly lighting its construction. The general style of facade and interior solution will be preserved.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport employs the Under One Roof concept, which provides for construction of a single terminal instead of several ones allowing the most efficient use of the transfer capacity of an airport. It is to provide convenient connections for the passengers who will not be wasting their time walking between terminals. For example, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol works as a part of the same concept.

RMJM Studio, engaged by Domodedovo Airport, is well known throughout the world. Among the recent large-scale infrastructure projects designed by the RMJM are the airport in Calcutta and the Capital Gate Tower in Abu Dhabi, which is the building with the largest angle of dip in the world. The Capital Gate Tower project has been awarded as the Best Commercial and the Best Multi-Purpose Project at the Cityscape Global 2011 real estate exhibition in Dubai at the end of September 2011.

Tony Kettle, Design Director of European studio RMJM, said: "The design of the terminal segment for Domodedovo Airport is a very prestigious task for RMJM. This is the special project through which millions of passengers will get their first impression of Russia.”

The third segment of Domodedovo, which is developed by European studio RMJM, is comparable in size to Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport - its area will be 254,000 square meters. The construction of the third segment is scheduled for completion in 2017. The area of the single terminal in Domodedovo Airport will be increased 9-fold relative to the current size and reach 919,500 square meters after the commissioning.

Today all the passengers and guests of Domodedovo are using the first segment of the Domodedovo terminal, which is being expanded and reconstructed - in a year its area will be more than doubled; it will increase up to 226,000 square meters. In 2017, we will complete the construction of the second segment, the area of the single terminal of Domodedovo Airport will increase by 439,500 sq. m after its commissioning.
