OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2011. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private utility, has been at the forefront of propagating energy conservation and efficiency. The company has been undertaking various initiatives across locations to spread awareness and enabling ‘judicious use of energy’. Under this drive, Tata Power’s Belgaum plant employees successfully conducted an energy audit at Garuda Allied Technology, Machhe Industrial Area, Belgaum.

The primary objective of this energy audit programme was to understand the existing energy requirements and recommend ways and means through which energy efficiency can be achieved. During the audit, an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building, process, or system is undertaken to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output.

Speaking on the initiative, Balaraja Bhat, head, Belgaum plant, Tata Power, said, “We at Tata Power strongly believe that this drive will help our customers and industries in reducing their energy bills and enhance operational efficiencies. We had recently carried out a similar audit at Jain Engineers, Auto Nagar, and received a very positive response. This has encouraged us to conduct such audits in many more establishments such as Garuda Allied Technology."

An energy audit is a broad spectrum of energy study ranging from a quick walk-through of a facility to identify major problem areas to a comprehensive analysis of the implications of alternative energy efficiency. The audit is required to identify the most efficient and cost-effective energy conservation opportunities including partial replacement of the existing installation. Increasingly in the last several decades, industrial energy audits have increased due the demand to lower expensive energy costs and move towards a sustainable future.

Through these audits, Tata Power intends to communicate best practices in energy efficiency to various businesses in Belgaum.
